5 Takeaways from the 2022 TMSA Annual Conference
Written by: Jennifer Karpus-Romain, TMSA Executive Director

The TMSA Annual Conference has come and gone, but the conversations and thought-provoking information we all learned about in Orlando is still being shared and discussed on LinkedIn (which makes this TMSA Executive Director thrilled!)

Ahead of the “TMSA Conference Debrief” webinar on June 22 at 1 p.m. ET, I wanted to share five key takeaways from the conference:

  1. Just begin.
Too often we push things off until Monday, or next month, or next year. Maybe we even wait until we can afford the “right” equipment. Yet, that does not need to be the case. That was a key piece of advice that I got from Blythe Brumleve’s session on podcasting. I’ve always wanted to start a podcast, but got overwhelmed thinking I needed a certain set of tools or investment to begin, so it was a great reminder we can start small and continue to grow.
  2. Stay connected.
Ask questions. Make connections with others and keep in contact. TMSA is more than a conference held once a year. It’s a network of industry professionals at your disposal all the time. Met someone you found interesting or insightful? Reach out and set up a virtual coffee meeting and continue to engage.
  3. Create value.
Don’t get lost in the chaos. It’s easy to get wrapped up in trying to hit a certain quota of content pieces or sales calls in a week, but what’s it all for? Cut out the noise and remember your purpose. Put out content and share insights that matter. Dedicate some time for yourself to continue to learn. Read industry news, attend webinars, listen to podcasts, etc.
  4. Make focused investments.
The theme of the TMSA Annual Conference was “Level Up” because people are ready to take the next step, but don’t always know how. One of my favorite quotes from the conference was from Chris Jolly when he said: “Technology means nothing if your truck doesn’t show up.” Be strategic with your investments. Don’t just fall for the bells and whistles. Make sure that anything new that you add in is actually helping you to meet your goals.
  5. Find inspiration.
At the closing of the TMSA Annual Conference, Shawna Suckow asked us to pick our theme for the rest of the year. My theme word is "embrace." Embrace change. Embrace loved ones. Embrace what comes what next, whatever that may be. I now have a Post-It note on my desk to remind me every day.
